@Road Inc., Fremont, Calif., has introduced the @Road J1708 Vehicle Diagnostics service to provide access to vehicle diagnostic information.
The J1708 is a standardized interface for a truck’s electronic control module.
@Road J1708 Vehicle Diagnostics is part of the company's suite of products and mobile communications and computing services.
Information provided by @Road J1708 Vehicle Diagnostics include:
* Engine diagnostics to help identify and prevent maintenance problems.
* Fault descriptions to maximize vehicle warranty and pinpoint malfunctions.
* Separate driving fuel from idle fuel data to reduce state fuel taxes.
* Driver behavior data to improve driver and public safety, and to help lower
insurance rates.
The @Road J1708 Vehicle Diagnostics service includes an in-vehicle J1708
connector, data translator and a serial connection to the @Road Ilm (Internet Location Manager) onboard device. Engine and driver performance data is collected from the vehicle's electronic control module, transmitted over a wireless network to the @Road data center and then processed by @Road into meaningful information to produce real-time and historical reports such as trip detail, trip summary and exception reports.
@Road also plans to add OBDII support to provide similar reports for smaller
vehicles such as vans and pickups.
Customers can subscribe to the @Road J1708 Vehicle Diagnostics service for
$7.95 per month, per user, plus a one-time fee of $349.00 for the @Road
J1708 Vehicle hardware.
