Rand McNally, Skokie, Ill., has launched service that provides real-time traffic flow and incident reporting in more than 90 U.S. cities over cellphones.

Rand McNally Traffic is an application that can be downloaded to an appropriate cellphone. The service is available on Sprint PCS, Verizon, AT&T Wireless and ALLTEL. Specific coverage and technical requirements can be found at www.randmcnally.com/traffic.
According to the Rand McNally press release, subscribers have unlimited, immediate access to information on accidents, construction, areas of congestion, road closures, weather conditions and potentially traffic-impacting events, such as sporting events, concerts and festivals.
A feature called the Commute Wizard provides zip code-to-zip code reports making destination searches easier than ever before. Subscribers can access information on specific routes, store their routes and retrieve traffic reports quickly and easily. Users can search for information by city and check for incidents by road.
Rand McNally Traffic has a $3.99 monthly subscription fee, charged directly to a customer's monthly cellular bill.
