Qualcomm Inc. a leader in mobile communications for the transportation industry, has introduced several enhancements to its fleet management solutions for private fleet customers.
These improvements include new releases of its FleetAdvisor and TrackingAdvisor software solutions, and an upgrade of its MPVc in-vehicle computer hardware. These solutions provide private fleets with the means to improve productivity and customer service, to reduce operational costs and to operate more efficiently, according to the company.
"Qualcomm has delivered powerful fleet tracking and management solutions to private fleets for more than a decade," said Glynn Spangenberg, vice president and general manager of Qualcomm Wireless Business Solutions.
FleetAdvisor is a transportation logistics management system that supports full-function, on-board computing, vehicle tracking, highly integrated back-office software, and real-time wireless communications. The new version of the FleetAdvisor solution includes the following enhancements:
-- Automatic exception management reporting for improved fleet management, driver performance and time efficiency. The exception monitoring function allows dispatchers to receive automatic reports to determine if trucks have stopped, are off-schedule or are operating outside of normal performance criteria. This enhancement eliminates manual processes and provides companies with a better understanding of driver performance for improved fleet management and efficiency.
-- A Web-based architecture that allows dispatchers to provide dynamic re-rerouting, route editing, dispatch messaging and order entry changes via a web browser, minimizing client installations, reducing network bandwidth requirements and greatly simplifying deployment.
-- Support for SQL 2000, Microsoft's latest database version, which offers improved database performance and reliability and enables support of very large private fleets.
Private fleet drivers may access data via FleetAdvisor applications on the MVPc in-vehicle computer, which has been upgraded to improve readability of the LCD screen while in the cab. The MVPc operates on the Windows CE operating system with on-board software designed to complement Qualcomm's OmniTRACS or OmniExpress mobile communications systems. When combined with OmniTRACS or OmniExpress, the FleetAdvisor solution enables private fleets to automate, integrate and improve business processes by relaying real-time information through Qualcomm's Network Management Center, which processes more than seven million transactions every day.
In addition, Qualcomm has released a new version of its TrackingAdvisor mapping software. The new version includes an improved mapping engine for better reliability and now also supports split server configurations. The TrackingAdvisor software also includes maps for Canada.
