QUALCOMM Inc. has announced that its hours of service application is now available to the transportation and logistics industry.
QUALCOMM aligned commercial release of the application to ensure customers would have a tool that is fully compliant with the U.S. Department of Transportation's recently revised hours of service rules.
QUALCOMM designed its hours of service application as a proactive management tool to help fleets optimize dispatch assignments by providing accurate, up-to-date driver availability information to the load planning process. Early feedback from test users indicates QUALCOMM has achieved a primary design goal for the application – driver ease-of-use.
Joan Waltman, president of QUALCOMM Wireless Business Solutions, said “The hours of service application allows our customers to benefit from automated documentation of DOT compliance, as well as from functions that significantly help increase the productivity and efficiency of drivers, dispatchers and load planners."
The hours of service application features:
* Up-to-date driver availability calculation based on automatic driving time detection using vehicle sensor data, minimizing driver interaction and data entry
* Web interface for review of driver status, availability and reports
* Automatic hours of service reports for driver management and safety audits
* Near real-time notification to drivers and dispatch of impending or actual violations
* Support hotline available for roadside inspections 24 hours a day, seven days a week
QUALCOMM's hours of service application is for use with the OmniTRACS
solution and complies with section 395.15 of U.S. DOT regulations governing the use of electronic on-board recorders to document compliance with DOT hours of service regulations. As a web-based software service, the information is delivered to the dispatch system via a web interface or can be viewed online with a web browser.
