Quake Global Inc., San Diego, Calif., said two new dual-mode satellite modems will be available in the U.S. through Teletouch Communications Inc.

The Q2000-CDMA modem is scheduled to launch by the end of the second quarter; the Q2000-GSM modem will be introduced later this year.
Dual-mode modems automatically switch to the most effective and cost-efficient available network. Both modems communicate over the Orbcomm network of low-earth-orbit satellites, as well as either the CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) or GSM (Global System for Mobile communication) ground-based networks. Sprint and Verizon operate CDMA networks. Cingular and T-Mobile provide GSM service.
The modems offer reduced latencies (delays in data transmission), near real-time message delivery, the ability to quickly transfer large amounts of data, satellite back-up for seamless coverage and higher message delivery rates.
