Six more truck driver training schools have received course certification from the Professional Truck Driver Institute, bringing the total number of schools offering PTDI-certified courses to 65.

The new schools are Delaware Technical & Community College, Georgetown, DE; Kirkwood Community College, Cedar Rapids, IA; three locations of Smith & Solomon School of Tractor Trailer Driving in Cherry Hill, NJ, Edison, NJ, and Philadelphia; and Veri Institute of Professional Truck Driving, Exeter, Ontario, Canada.
In addition, four programs have been recertified for five years.
American Institute of Technology in Phoenix was one of the schools to be recertified. AIT President Wade Murphree said when its course was first certified two years ago, only 19 schools had certified courses. Thirty more schools currently have certification applications pending.
PTDI revised the certification process in 1998, incorporating the then-Federal Highway Administration's "Minimum Standards for Training Tractor-Trailer Drivers" and adding an onsite evaluation team to the process.
