The Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITSA) awarded a "Best of ITS" Award to the Heavy Vehicle Electronic License Plate Inc. (HELP Inc.) for its PrePass weigh station bypass service.
During its 11th annual awards banquet
held in Miami Tuesday, ITS America selected the Phoenix-based company from among five finalists in the category of "ITS deployment shown to save money." The award was based on quantitative performance, qualitative performance, innovation, maturity of deployment, and integration into the transportation system.
The ITS America award followed HELP Inc.'s runner-up finish for the Computerworld Honors Program's 21st Century Achievement Award in the area of transportation, held Monday night in Washington, DC.
PrePass allows trucks to be weighed at highway speeds and have their state-required safety and credentials checked electronically without stopping at weigh stations and inspection facilities.
