Long Beach Container Terminal Inc., a marine terminal operator at the Port of Long Beach, announced it is converting all diesel-powered yard equipment to a newly developed and cleaner burning oxygenated diesel fuel.

The new fuel is expected to reduce particulate emissions by as much as 46% and carbon monoxide emissions by 30%.
LBCT Vice President Kevin J. Hayes said the company is the first terminal operator to convert its equipment to the new fuel. More than 60 pieces of heavy equipment used to handle cargo containers will be using the new fuel within four to eight weeks. Once fully converted, the terminal is expected to consume approximately 600,000 gallons annually of the cleaner burning diesel fuel.
The new fuel, called O2Diesel, reduces harmful emissions without loss of power and performance. The emission benefits of O2Diesel have been verified by the California Air Resources Board, which qualifies the fuel as an "alternative diesel fuel."
