A plan for a mega truckstop in the busy trucking area of southwest San Bernardino County in southern California has been scrapped.

The Riverside, Calif., Press-Enterprise reported that Catellus Development Corp. got permission from the county planning commission to replace the planned 75-acre truckstop with more than 1 million square feet of industrial space. The 1,300-space truckstop was not financially feasible, according to Catellus officials.
Local officials expressed concern about the lack of truck parking. San Bernardino County Supervisor Dennis Hansberger told the paper, "There's a lot of trucks that don't have a place to go now." He said some truckers have to wait in the High Desert until docks at their destinations become available because there is so little truck parking in the area. Ontario is home to two Travel Centers of America truckstops, but those truckstops are often full.
Mary Jane Olhasso, Ontario, Calif., economic development director, called it a regional issue that needs "serious consideration."
