LAS VEGAS -- Pete Joy, vice president of sales and marketing for Phillips Industries, was elected into the Heavy Duty Aftermarket Hall of Fame on the opening day of Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week.
The award, which is presented by IHS Automotive/Polk, is given to honor a person who has made a significant contribution to the heavy-duty aftermarket.
Joy began his career in the heavy-duty industry in 1973 with a distributorship based in New England. In 1978 he went to work for Midland Brake as a field sales rep. Echlin purchased Midland in 1983 and Joy moved into a marketing role where he was responsible for integrating products from the two companies. In 1988 he was given responsibility for sales, marketing and aftermarket operations at Echlin.
In 1998 Echlin sold its heavy-duty business to Haldex, and Joy became head of the Haldex Aftermarket Services Division.
Joy was on the original HDAW joint operating committee and was a co-chair of Heavy Duty Aftermarket Week in 2006. He has also held leadership roles in the Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association, and Heavy Duty Business Forum. In 2007, the Motor and Equipment Manufacturers Association awarded Joy the MEMA Triangle Award.
Joy left Haldex in 2009 and today is a consultant for Phillips Industries, where he “is now in the fifth year of three-month assignment,” said Gary Meteer, director commercial vehicle solutions for IHS Automotive, when presenting the award.
An independent panel selects the honoree based on length of service, significant impact on the industry, commitment and industry participation and thought leadership.
