Peterbilt will kick off its North American Tour on April 26, stopping at 77 Peterbilt dealers over the next six months to showcase the Paccar MX engine and the new Model 587.
The Paccar MX engine is available with a horsepower range of 380 to 485 horsepower and torque outputs up to 1,750 pounds-feet. Paccar officials believe this power range, combined with excellent fuel efficiency, high reliability, durability, lightweight design and low cost of ownership, makes it an ideal choice for both over-the-road line-haul and vocational applications.
Paccar also pioneered the design and manufacture of high-strength compacted graphite iron (CGI) used in the MX engine block and cylinder head, according to Craig Brewster, Paccar assistant vice president.
The MX engine uses selective catalytic reduction (SCR) in combination with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) to meet the EPA 2010 diesel engine emissions regulations. The engine will be available in Peterbilt Models 587, 388, 386, 384, 367 and 365 this summer.
The tour will highlight the readiness of the Peterbilt dealer network to provide parts and service support for the Paccar MX engine. There are 674 authorized Peterbilt and Paccar service locations across North America that are certified in the latest technologies and diagnostic tools to service and support Paccar engines
The tour will also highlight the new SmartWay certified Model 587, which features advanced aerodynamic performance, improved visibility, forward lighting and maneuverability. Standard with front air disc brakes, the Model 587 also features the Bendix Wingman ACB, Active Cruise with Braking system, to enable truck operators to maintain a safe following distance behind a forward vehicle through proactive warnings and active interventions.
Peterbilt's new SmartNav system will also be featured on the tour. The system offers navigation, vehicle diagnostics, communication and entertainment technologies, in a touch screen-operated unit.
