Peterbilt will cut production at its Denton, Texas, plant from 68 trucks to 48 trucks a day starting Oct. 9.

The company would not disclose how many workers will be affected.
The move follows similar cutbacks by other U.S. heavy truck manufacturers as high diesel prices, rising labor costs, interest rate hikes, and depressed used truck values continue to dampen new truck sales.
In August Peterbilt reduced production at its Nashville-area plant from 50 to 35 trucks a day. In addition to layoffs at both plants it has cut salaried employees at its Denton headquarters.
