PeopleNet Communications, Minneapolis, is the latest company to join the Freight Transportation Security Consortium,
an alliance of more than 50 companies that is developing a comprehensive private industry-led response to the terrorist threat to the freight transportation industry, especially the movements of hazardous materials.

Consortium members believe that actively monitoring the tractors, tank trailers and tank railcars used to move chemicals and fuels with modern location and sensoring devices is the best way to markedly reduce the risk of hijacking, tampering and theft by terrorists. FTSC members are working together within organizations such as the Technology and Maintenance Council to establish neutral industry standards for security-related messaging and wireless data encryption for vehicle location, load status and emergency response applications.
