LTL carrier Overnite Transportation Co., Richmond, Va., has introduced "E-mail A Friend," an online service enabling customers to forward electronic bills of lading to anyone, anywhere, anytime.

E-mail A Friend provides Overnite customers the ability to remotely manage inbound shipments, improve communication with paying agents, as well as schedule and manage returns and regular shipments.
Registered MyOvernite users can access the E-mail A Friend feature through the company's web site, www.overnite.com, immediately after creating their bills of lading or directly from their personal shipment history page.
The system streamlines and organizes the inboxes for its e-mail recipients by pre-inserting the subject of the e-mail with the Overnite PRO number assigned to that shipment. Personal comments may be added to any note. The application stores a list of previous e-mail recipients. When viewing the e-mail feature for bills of lading that have already been sent, a list of previous recipients is automatically generated.
The system uses encryption technology to protect MyOvernite customer data.
Overnite is being spun off from Union Pacific Corp. as an Initial Public Offering.
