Oshkosh Truck Corp. won a $49.4 million contract to rebuild hundreds of Army trucks and trailers used during the war in Iraq this year, the company has announced.

Under the contract, Oshkosh will remanufacture its heavy expanded mobility tactical trucks, heavy equipment transporters and trailers and palletized load systems trucks and trailers.
A total of 262 trucks and 172 trailers will be restored to "like new" condition at the company's main factory in Oshkosh in 2004, spokeswoman Kirsten Skyba said. All are to be returned to the U.S. Army by September for redeployment.
More than 6,500 Oshkosh-built trucks have been in service in Iraq.
In October, Oshkosh said defense sales made up more than one-third of the company's $1.9 billion in total sales for the fiscal year ended Sept. 30.
Military truck sales were up 10% to $657.1 million in the last fiscal year.
