Over the next seven years, Oklahoma plans to construct nine high-tech weigh stations.

According to the Tulsa World, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation is scheduled to accept bids today on construction on the first of these weigh stations in Kay County, south of the Kansas border, along I-35. They hope to break ground on it by the first of the year.

Bids will be accepted Nov. 18 for construction of a weigh station in Beckham County east of the Oklahoma/Texas border along I-40. In March, bids will be opened for construction of a weigh station along I-40 west of the Oklahoma/Arkansas border in Sequoyah County.

Bid openings on construction of the six remaining weigh stations have not been scheduled, but 40- to 50-acre sites for each of the facilities have been purchased by ODOT, agency officials told the paper.

The six sites are:
* Bryan County along U.S. 69 on the Texas border.
* Choctaw County along U.S. 271 on the Texas border.
* Cotton County along I-44 in southwestern Oklahoma.
* Love County along I-35 north of the Texas/Oklahoma border.
* Ottawa County along I-44 west of the Oklahoma/Missouri border.
* Delaware County along U.S. 412 at the Arkansas border.

An Oklahoma DOT official told the World that each location will have a specific site plan done for it - a building, a large truck parking area, scale houses, parking lanes and an inspection bay.
