A plan by some Oklahoma lawmakers to limit the use of triple trailers in the state is close to being dead.

The Oklahoma Trucking Association reports House Bill 1665 has failed to be passed out of the House Transportation Committee before a crucial legislative procedural deadline.
According to published reports, the bill would have given counties the option of routing triple trailer trucks around their counties.
OTA President George Tomek told Truckinginfo.com, "there is a slim chance the bill could be resurrected later in the legislative session, but we believe as of now it’s dead."
He said the safety record for triples in the state has improved dramatically in the past three years, and preliminary numbers indicate the number of triple trailer accidents in the state have dropped by more than half from 1999 to 2000.
Supporters of the bill said they introduced the measure due to concerns from their constituents.
