Operation Interdependence and the national highway safety program Share the Road have managed to deliver leftover non-perishable items for care packages for U.S. soldiers serving overseas.
This weekend, Share the Road drivers hauled the donated items from a convention in Las Vegas to OI's distribution center in Grand Junction, Colo. Volunteers from the Grand Junction community, including members of the Navy, Marines and Air Force, were on-site Sunday morning to unload the tractor-trailer's worth of items so they could be made into care packages.
"The trucking industry is proud to give back to our soldiers overseas," said Elisabeth Barna, ATA's vice president of strategic planning and outreach. "ATA is honored to partner with Operation Interdependence to deliver these items that will support our troops."
This is the fourth time that the American Trucking Associations and Operation Interdependence have teamed up to deliver. Drivers for the American Trucking Associations have also delivered packages for troops to OI's distribution centers in Bayonne, N.J. and Houston, Texas.
