On Saturday, June 14 the Ohio Professional Roadeo Drivers Association will be conducting the Ohio State Truck Driving Championship.
Over 200 of the safest drivers in Ohio, who combined have accumulated millions of accident free miles will compete for the title of State Champion in 8 different classes of competition. Winners of this American Trucking Associations (ATA) sanctioned event will be eligible to compete in the ATA National Truck Driving Championship in Houston Texas in August.
Professional Drivers will be required to take a written test demonstrating knowledge of the industry, first aid, firefighting, and safe driving practices. The drivers will also be judged on their skills at maneuvering their trucks through a course of six problems that simulate every day driving scenarios. Finally, they must conduct a pre-trip inspection to locate 10 defects that were placed on a truck and trailer.
"This competition is an example of the drivers and their company's dedication to highway safety," says nine time State Champion Edwin "Rosey" Jarzenski. "This Championship demonstrates the professional truck driver's dedication and commitment to safety."
To be eligible to compete, a driver must be employed as a Professional Truck Driver by their sponsoring company for the previous 12 months leading up to the event. He or she must also hold a CDL with the proper endorsements for the class they wish to compete in, and finally, the driver must be accident free for one year prior to the Championship.
The event will start at 7 a.m. and go until approximately 3:00pm. It will be held at the Ohio State parking lot-Acherman Rd. and State Route 315.
