Internet transportation market maker NTE announced that Covenant Transport, Chattanooga, Tenn., has joined as an NTE carrier member.

Covenant is one of six major truckload carriers whose logistics divisions merged last year to form Transplace.com, an Internet-based logistics company.
According to the NTE announcement, Covenant is currently using NTE to buy dry van truckload freight. Covenant gives NTE a daily snapshot of available capacity. NTE then matches and prices the freight from among tenders submitted by shippers nationwide. Once a transaction is booked and pickup and delivery are arranged, the shipper is responsible for loading and unloading -- a valuable feature for Covenant.
"We were skeptical of transportation exchanges at first. Lo and behold, NTE is now one of our largest single source providers," said Covenant's brokerage division manager Clay Scholl.
"Covenant makes NTE a stronger e-marketplace for shippers interested in moving freight reliably, efficiently and with high quality," said Thomas Jendrowski, NTE's chief operating officer. "The presence of another nationwide carrier will strengthen liquidity in our exchange so what's tendered to NTE does, in fact, move."
