NSI Global Inc., Montreal, a global provider of satellite-based communications systems, announced that its Vistar Datacom subsidiary has received an order from Sunco Carriers Inc.,
a Lakeland, Fla.-based hauler of foodstuffs, to outfit Sunco's entire fleet of 520 refrigerated trailer units with GlobalWave satellite communications terminals.
The GlobalWave terminals will be deployed for tracking and monitoring shipments of perishable foods throughout Sunco's service area of 33 states in the South, Midwest and Northeast.
The installation of the GlobalWave two-way satellite data communications terminals on Sunco's refrigerated trailer units will enable the company to track and monitor shipments remotely via the Internet. The GlobalWave solution will integrate seamlessly with Sunco's existing transportation management solution from McLeod Software.
"Because Sunco utilizes owner operators for 100 percent of our tractor fleet, our interest was in tracking our trailers - and our customers' shipments," said Hunt Berryman, President of Sunco Carriers. "During our evaluation process of the different tracking solutions on the market today, we tested a cellular-based solution, after which we eliminated all cellular solutions from our decision set. The cellular products just couldn't give us the coverage that we needed to safeguard our assets, and it was important to us to be able to offer the most reliable solution to our customers. The GlobalWave system satisfied all of our requirements."
The GlobalWave system offers ubiquitous satellite coverage over all of North America, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, and operates 24 hours a day. The GlobalWave MT2000 terminals represent the smallest, most-powerful satellite communications product available, according to the company and are capable of performing a number of functions, including transmitting information on volume, temperature, pressure and voltage; producing reports on location and speed; and triggering alarms when sensor thresholds are exceeded. Because GlobalWave provides two-way communication capabilities, a query (poll) can be sent to the asset requesting its current status and an immediate response will be provided.
