NEXIQ Technologies, Manchester, N.H., has released Version 1.5 of its IVIS software, which is used by truck makers and software developers to develop in-cab graphic displays and applications.

By integrating data from various vehicle components and specialized applications such as navigation and wireless messaging, IVIS, or In-Vehicle Information System, allows the display of virtually any type of current and critical information. This could include gauges and instrumentation, maps with turn-by-turn directions, even high-end multimedia and entertainment systems. Unlike vendor-specific software, IVIS is an end-to-end solution that operates on almost any processor with virtually any display.
The IVIS software makes operating systems, target hardware, displays, and other peripheral devices virtually plug-and-play, according to the company.
Used with the accompanying Graphical User Interface Development Environment (GUIDE), developers can easily generate target-ready software. Powerful Embedded Graphics Libraries allow high quality graphics on low cost processors without any special graphics hardware.
The numerous upgrade features in IVIS Version 1.5 are designed to simplify and reduce the cost of developing in-vehicle informational displays. For instance, any size and style of Windows TrueType font can be imported into the GUIDE environment. Developers can select the target platform for an application with the click of a button. The software provides "off-the-shelf" support for importing and displaying maps and other graphical data. A new ticker option allows the scrolling of anything from stock quotes to turn-by-turn information at any speed, in any font.
