Congressman Paul Tonko (D-N.Y.) will hold a news conference at the Capitol in Washington, D.C., Tuesday to discuss Jason's Law and detail efforts to secure support in Congress.
"Jason's Law," is named after New York truck driver Jason Rivenburg, who was shot to death during a robbery attempt on March 5, 2009, while resting at an abandoned gas station in South Carolina.

Rivenburg's wife, Hope Rivenburg, has been personally lobbying members of Congress on Capitol Hill, and will be joining Tonko at the news conference.

Rivenburg's murder case called attention to the nationwide shortage of safe, accessible rest stops for truckers, and led Congressman Tonko to introduce H.R. 2156, Jason's Law. The bill would create a grant program that would help alleviate the shortage and help pay for expansion and safety improvements at existing rest areas. This includes the establishment of safe parking for commercial motor vehicles.

Congressman Erik Paulsen (R-Minn.), a co-sponsor of the bill, will also be at the press conference. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has introduced a companion bill in the U.S. Senate.

The press conference will be held Tuesday, March 16, at 1:30 p.m. local time at the Capitol in Washington, D.C.
