The New Jersey Department of Transportation is going after a Jersey City trucking company to try to recoup more than $6 million in damages caused last summer by a fiery three-truck crash.

On June 22, a fiery crash between three trucks, one of them a gasoline tanker, damaged the beams supporting the I-80 bridge over the Den Brook. The rebuilt bridge was not finished until September, resulting in months of snarled traffic.
According to the Bergen County Record, state police found that a truck owned by J'Low Express was the initial cause of the accident. So the DOT is filing a $6.2 million claim to cover the costs of rebuilding the Route 80 bridge.
The rear tires of the J'Low Express truck reportedly locked, sending the rig and its driver skidding more than 700 feet. A tanker truck loaded with gasoline swerved to avoid the truck and lost control. A third truck hit the J'Low truck from behind. The result was an extremely hot fire that damaged the supports of the bridge.
