Sony Electronics has introduced a new dashboard cradle for its CLIE handheld computers.
A compatible handheld CLIE (the PEG-NX80V, -NX73V and -TG50 models) docked in the cradle can do some pretty nifty things. For example:
-- GPS displays your location and direction of movement on the CLIE screen. Working with the bundled GPS antenna, the cradle unit provides turn-by-turn directions with voice prompts. The special version of Rand McNally StreetFinder Travel Navigation Software features street-level maps and requires PC and Internet connection for route set-up.
-- Audio output transmits MP3 and ATRAC3 music files stored on Sony Memory Stick over your FM radio speakers.
-- Text-to-voice function reads e-mail stored from the CLIE Mail software application.
The cradle enables these functions, and charges the CLIE battery at the same time. The unit includes a remote control unit.
According to Sony, the new CLIE PEGA-CC5 cradle will be available at retailers nationwide at the end of August for about $300.
