The market for Class 8 used on-highway trucks remains healthy going into the fall, according to a report from the American Truck Dealers association.


"Used truck sales per dealership saw a minor uptick in July to build on June's healthy increase," says Chris Visser, editor of the NADA/ATD Official Commercial Truck Guide.

The average selling price of 4-year-old sleeper tractors took a minor dip in July, while the average value of the market as a whole was slightly up, Visser says. Valuation changes for Class 8 trucks in September were minimal compared to previous months.

"We will continue to make changes as necessary to match market activity," Visser says.

Likewise, Visser says, the guide continues to monitor changes in the medium-duty market, which has not shown much activity since an uptick in prices last spring.

His forecast for the overall used-truck market has not changed much, either, Visser says. "We are still extremely bullish on used Class 8 highway values going forward," he says. "While it is likely that industrial production and other truck-impacting economic activity will continue to moderate in the near future, the attractively low supply of trucks with pre-2010 emissions engines will counteract these factors."
