Sessions exploring solutions to the top safety challenges currently facing the professional moving industry highlight the 2011 National Safety & Operations Conference Nov. 9-10 in Baltimore, Md., the annual event sponsored by the American Moving & Storage Association.
"Improving safety is always one of our primary objectives," said Linda Bauer Darr, AMSA president & CEO, "whether for our workers, our customers, or other highway users. Our members are now evaluating federal government proposals mandating electronic on-board recorders and changing to the current hours-of-service rules for drivers, which would both have a significant impact on movers."
Experts will focus on topics including the federal government's Comprehensive Safety Analysis program, electronic on-board recorders, fleet safety and operations trends and techniques, emerging environmental issues and transportation safety research.
"Our line-up of sessions and speakers this year is outstanding," said David Hauenstein, AMSA vice president for compliance services and government affairs. "Anyone with safety or operations management responsibilities in the moving industry will come away with a lot of useful information and insights that will make their organization more efficient, economical, and frankly, safer."
Speakers for the two-day conference include officials from the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Rand McNally, the American Transportation Research Institute and APCO Worldwide, a leading crisis communications firm. Two hands-on demonstrations of the newest EOBR equipment are scheduled, as well as networking opportunities and a luncheon on Nov. 9.
