More violence has been reported at Overnite Transportation facilities as the Teamsters union is in its fourth week of picketing the less-than-truckload carrier.

Early Friday, the driver's side windshield of an Overnite truck near a picket line at the Bensalem, PA, terminal was shattered by a shotgun blast, according to a Philadelphia Inquirer report. Police have no suspects.
Also in Bensalem last week, a Teamster on the picket line was charged with making a false police report for claiming he was hit by an Overnite truck. The incident was caught on videotape by a private security firm hired by Overnite. The tape showed that Donald Cummiskey walked in front of the slow-moving truck and faked an injury.
Scattered violence has been reported on both sides of the dispute. Overnite has obtained restraining orders against the Teamsters at 11 locations.
Last Saturday, Teamsters handed out leaflets to shoppers at some of Overnite's largest customers. The leaflet, called "Tell Overnite: Obey the Law," was given to customers at Lowes Home Improvement, Linen N Things, and Bed, Bath & Beyond.
Teamsters have been picketing at approximately three-quarters of Overnite's 166 terminals in an action that began in Memphis Oct. 24. Not all the picketers are Overnite employees. The union has been trying to organize Overnite, terminal by terminal, since 1994. It is calling this action an unfair labor practices strike.
