Emergency hauling declarations, suspending hours of service rules for truck drivers, are piling up across the nation.
In Iowa, Gov. Terry Branstad has approved one for drivers of commercial motor vehicles transporting propane. The order is in effect through Jan 2.
The problem also extends to New Hampshire, but covers truckers hauling several types of fuels, including diesel and gasoline. The hours of service exemption for qualified haulers of fuels is in effect through the end of the year.
Finally in Massachusetts, an emergency declaration has been issued suspending hours of service rules for truckers hauling gasoline. It is in effect through Dec. 23.
So far this month at least five other states have issued emergency hauling declarations due to various fuel shortages, with most remaining in effect.
