As Americans enjoy the food, gifts and get-togethers that are the hallmarks of the holiday season, Michelin invites everyone to take a moment and salute the season’s unsung heroes, commercial drivers. These are the people who spend countless hours on the road and in the fields, working in jobs that span everything from farming, emergency response and public transit to shipping, package delivery and trucking.

Michelin North America will mark the season with a #KeepThanksMoving conversation in social and digital media that will celebrate these millions of unsung and often unseen heroes and encourage people everywhere to share their own appreciation via Twitter or Facebook.

“As you bustle from store to store and gather with family and friends, please take a minute this holiday season to think about the many people who help move the jolly, jingle and scrumptious morsels that help make your family’s holiday memories across the miles and keep the roads and highways safe,” said Ralph Dimenna, chief operating officer for Michelin Americas Truck Tires Division. “These are the ones who ‘keep thanks moving’ under all kinds of weather and driving conditions. Let’s show them how grateful we are for all they do.”

Consider these “moving” facts from across the United States:

  • 300,000 farmers spend 10 or more hours a day working 2.2 million farms

  • 3.4 million truck drivers haul across billions of miles annually

  • 300,000 maritime workers handle 30 million shipping containers annually

  • 650,000 bus drivers transport people to and from school and work

  • 1.3 million package-delivery workers on the road 365 days of the year

  • 1.1 million local fire fighters and 826,000 EMS workers respond to emergencies

  • More than 250,000 workers clear the snow and ice from our roads

#KeepThanksMoving continues Michelin’s long history of supporting drivers and being a good member of the communities in which its employees live and work. Join the conversation and share your thanks for how commercial drivers help make the holidays memorable by posting public comments on Twitter using the hashtag #KeepThanksMoving and include @MichelinTruck, @MichelinTweel1, or @MichelinAG and on Facebook MichelinTruck, MichelinTweel or MichelinUSA.

Each week, from Nov. 16 to Dec. 31, 2015, Michelin will recognize the most compelling posts in each category for individuals who demonstrate outstanding community involvement. These seven individuals will receive a Michelin-branded 12-Volt Cooler/Warmer by Koolatron and a certificate for a pair of Justin Work Boots. Participants can also download a thank you card from Michelinmedia.com to give to special workers in their community. Official contest rules are posted on Michelinmedia.com.
