Truckers will gradually be allowed to travel on the Nuevo Laredo highway, which connects Monterrey, Mexico, with Laredo, Texas, after the Mexican government closed the highway due to flooding from the Salado River
, according to published reports.
Trucks headed for the U.S. were stuck in Mexico for as much as two days earlier this week, according to Bloomberg. The majority of the more than $300 billion in trade between the U.S. and Mexican passes through this highway, the news service said.
But now the highway is being reopened to trucks only, and the country has also exempted truckers from paying tolls on the Nuevo Laredo.
Trucks had to be rerouted to other entry points, including Hidalgo and Brownsville, Texas.
The non-tolled highway will stay closed for several more days, according to published reports.
