Meritor Wabco Says Disc Brakes Satisfy Stopping Rule
Meritor Wabco Vehicle Control Systems' line of air disc brakes will meet the recent U.S. government mandate for shortened truck stopping distance requirements, the company says

"Our North American original equipment and fleet customers are well-positioned for selecting outstanding solutions to meet the new stopping distance requirements," said Jon Morrison, president, Meritor Wabco Vehicle Control Systems, a joint venture between ArvinMeritor and Wabco Automotive Control Systems. "Our air disc brakes have a track record of more than 20 years."
The new National Highway Traffic Safety Administration rule requires that a fully loaded tractor-trailer at 60 mph must be able to stop in 250 feet, 30 percent less than the former standard of 355 feet. A lightly loaded truck must stop within 235 feet. The new requirement, which applies only to new truck tractors, will be phased in over four years.
The company offers air disc brakes as an all-wheel package, or front air disc brakes combined with rear drum brakes, and trailer air disc brakes.
