Meritor WABCO Reaches Trailer ABS Sets a Sales Record
Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems announced Tuesday that it has achieved an industry milestone

Over 1.5 million Easy-Stop trailer anti-lock braking systems have now been sold. The product, which has been available for ten years in North America., is the most widely-spec'd trailer ABS system in the history of the commercial vehicle industry.
"The system we offer today continues to provide reliability and benefits that are essential to our customers' operations, as demonstrated by this significant milestone," said Denny Sandberg, president of Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems. "Beyond the safety advantages offered by typical trailer ABS, our Enhanced Easy-Stop provides unparalleled trailer monitoring and control capabilities."
The braking system integrates two advanced features - power line carrier communication and generic data inputs/outputs - to enable communication between the ABS electronic control units in the tractor and trailer. Typical data that can be communicated includes status of lift axle or door latch, tire pressure, and reefer temperature. Each generic input/output offers the opportunity to monitor or control a given trailer activity, with the premium system offering up to four inputs/outputs.
Motor carriers, as evidenced by their purchasing specifications, continue to focus on reliability and safety. They appreciate and insist on additional features that include an integrated dual modulator valve design; individually serviceable electronic control unit and ABS modulator valves; notebook function allowing a variety of information to be stored in the ECU; and system configurations to meet virtually any trailer application.
The Enhanced Easy-Stop ABS is the second generation in the Meritor WABCO family of trailer ABS products. The initial Easy-Stop ABS was introduced to the market in 1994 and gained widespread customer acceptance, positioning Meritor WABCO as the leader in tractor and trailer anti-lock braking systems.
