The award is part of a contest and survey called Best Fleets to Drive For, an annual evaluation of the best employers in the trucking industry. Nominations made for 2012 are currently being evaluated by CarriersEdge, a provider of online driver training systems that conducts the survey for TCA.
Fleets competing for the award are evaluated against a broad range of criteria reflecting current best practices in benefits, professional development, safety, and other areas. The top 20 winners will be named Best Fleets to Drive For and sorted into two categories -- those employing company drivers and those that utilize the services of owner operators. The highest scoring fleet in each of these areas will be singled out for recognition as the overall winner in that category.
"As the world's leading insurance broker, we are proud to sponsor the Best Overall Fleet for Company Drivers award, as it encourages organizations to improve the safety and overall strength of their fleets," said Greg St. Croix, Senior Vice President and National Transportation Risk Focus Leader of Marsh Canada. "The award continually sets higher standards for the industry and provides examples of highly effective programs and practices that other companies will hopefully learn from."
One of the most important elements of Best Fleets to Drive For is the survey data that it reveals. As CarriersEdge discovers carrier success stories in areas such as benefits, professional development, driver and community support, safety record, and company culture, it will compile these best practices and widely publicize them in the hopes of inspiring other fleets and raising the bar for the entire trucking industry.
Gary Salisbury, president and CEO of Fikes Truck Line, Inc., Hope, Ark., and 2011-12 TCA chairman, said, "We are grateful to Marsh for making it possible to recognize the #1 company for today's company drivers. There is much that all of us can and will learn when that 2012 winner is unveiled."
The top 20 winners will be announced in January and the overall winners of Best Fleets to Drive For will be announced at TCA's Annual Convention in March.
