Maptuit Corp., Burlington, Mass., has introduced a sophisticated geofencing technology for its FleetNav and TrackServ mapping and tracking products.

According to the Maptuit announcement, Maptuit’s geofencing feature sends an alert if a GPS-equipped truck deviates from planned route and can help hazmat carriers ensure the security of assets at all times.
“For instance, with Maptuit’s geofencing capability, a hazmat carrier can set a geofence of 10 miles around a nuclear power plant, and receive alerts if any of their trailers enter this pre-defined location. By providing this extra level of security, Maptuit’s customers have the ability to use our technology to react and recover from a situation that might compromise their asset’s security and even homeland security,” said Rick Turek, CTO of Maptuit.
Users can easily create a geofence, which is a defined boundary made up of geocoded points, through Maptuit’s proprietary ActiveLayer technology. Customers are able to receive arrival and departure alerts and detailed report of a truck’s course. Customers can receive notifications or alerts through email, pager or PDA to help minimize theft and increase security.
