Mack announced it finished out 2009 as the top exporter of heavy-duty North American trucks, with 30.8 percent market share of total truck exports from the U.S., Canada and Mexico to countries outside these areas.

Mack attributes the success in exports to its presence in new and existing markets around the world. The company also attributes it to high demand for American-style trucks, which is particularly strong for construction and heavy-haul applications.

"International sales continues to be an area of opportunity and growth for Mack as we strengthen our presence in established markets, such as Latin America and Australia, and grow elsewhere, such as Africa and the Middle East," said Ron Huibers, Mack senior vice president, international. "Our products have a strong reputation as the epitome of rugged, tough and reliable American-style trucks."

To support these opportunities, Mack has named Eduardo Herrera as region vice president for Latin America. Herrera joined Mack Trucks Venezuela in 1986, and served as corporate treasurer and general manager of finance. In 1999, he became general manager of the eastern area for Mack Trucks Venezuela. He moved to the U.S. in 2004 as director of international sales support and operations.

In addition, Mack appointed Peter Hertinge as region vice president for Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. He is responsible for optimizing the company's established distribution, while also establishing Mack in selected new markets and segments. He has 12 years experience with Volvo Group, most recently responsible for Mack in Australia where he was president of Volvo Group Australia from 2004 until 2009. Prior to that, Hertinge was plant manager of Volvo Trucks' operation in Umea, Sweden.

As part of the initiative, Govi Kannan was named vice president business development and strategy, having previously spent 10 years with Volvo Construction Equipment in Singapore, South Korea and North Carolina. He has engineering degrees from the National University of Singapore, and a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech in construction engineering and management.

Mack has appointed Guilherme Blaschke as vice president, international aftermarket, responsible for the development of aftermarket products and services. Blaschke has more than 23 years of experience within the Volvo Group, most recently responsible for developing distributors in Australia, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America for Volvo Truck's International Division.

Herrera, Blaschke and Kannan are based in Greensboro, N.C., at Mack world headquarters. Hertinge is based in Gothenburg, Sweden.
