At a ceremony last night in Kansas City, Mo., Mack Trucks marked the start of construction on its new subsidiary, Kansas City Mack Sales and Service, on N.E. 45th St. and Randolph Road, just west of I-435.

"This new subsidiary will quickly become a key location for Mack customers who service not only this region, but all of North America," said Paul L. Vikner, Mack executive vice president - sales & marketing. "Kansas City is a true hub city, which makes it critical for Mack to have a strong customer service presence."
Targeted for completion in the summer of 2001, the 28,000-square-foot facility is expected to house between 400 and 500 new and used power units at any given time. The full-service subsidiary will include an extensive parts department.
Until the new facility is ready, Mack will continue to serve the area from the existing Mack distributor location at 3738 Gardner Avenue. This facility is operated by Kansas City Mack Sales & Service, which Mack is entering into an agreement to purchase.
While the new facility's interior will be equipped with the latest in diagnostic and service technologies, the exterior and T-shaped building design were chosen to complement other construction in the area. The facility will feature skylights, a dramatic gabled roof and two entrances with glass walls up to vaulted ceilings. The building also has been engineered to allow for possible expansion.
