To help industry professionals understand and comply with California's stringent hazardous waste regulations, Lion Technology Inc. is presenting a series of two-day workshops on Managing Hazardous Waste in California, beginning in January.
The workshop provides comprehensive coverage of the California Hazardous Waste Regulations (Title 22), including waste identification, management standards for universal wastes, on-site management, manifesting, emergency planning and response, recordkeeping, and the latest legislative initiatives.
Lion says the California Department of Toxic Substances Control, a division of California's EPA, recently fined a Rancho Cordova company $600,000 for violations of State hazardous waste laws. Infractions included improper storage of chemicals and hazardous waste, storing waste in unauthorized areas, and failing to provide secondary containment where required.
"Some of California's hazardous waste regulations are the strictest in the nation, and ensuring compliance with both the State and Federal rules can be a challenge even for experienced waste managers," says Scott Dunsmore, Lion's vice president of resources and business development. "Regulators have often stated that inadequate training is the root cause of non-compliance."
Lion will offer this workshop first in Los Angeles on January 9-10, followed by sessions in Santa Barbara on January 12-13, Fresno on January 16-17, and San Francisco on January 19-20.
Pre-registration for these workshops is highly recommended. The program runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Day 1, and 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 pm on Day 2. Enrollment includes an optional online prep course, all course reference materials including the Title 22 Hazardous Waste Regulations, a networking luncheon, Certificate of Achievement, and one year of complete follow-up support.
