Linde Gas, one of the largest industrial gas suppliers in the world, has purchased 10 new tanker trailers with the Meritor Tire Inflation System (MTIS) by PSI.
The nitrogen cryogenic and oxygen cryogenic trailers are supplied to Linde Gas from Fiba Technology and James Russell Engineering.
Linde Gas has equipped all new tanker and compressed air trailers purchased since 1995 with MTIS. And as trailers purchased prior to 1995 are scheduled for rehab or others are integrated into their fleet, MTIS is added. The company currently runs more than 220 trailers with the system.
According to Karl Kerstetter, manager of Bulk Fleet Maintenance and Design, for Linde Gas “We install the PSI system primarily because it allows us, as a hazardous material private carrier fleet, to utilize a controlled retread process, even with our single-wide tires. Before installing MTIS, we were unable to use retreads on our fleet equipment, but now we can by maintaining proper tire inflation with MTIS. Overall we’ve reduced tire cost by 28 percent a year since 2002 and catastrophic failures caused by single-wide blowouts have been cut by 68 percent.”
