Digex Inc. Laurel, Md., announced that Landstar System Inc., Jacksonville, Fla., has selected Digex to host and manage its online transportation services. Digex provides managed web and application hosting services.
Digex hosts the system Landstar uses to support its network of 7,000 independent agents and drivers. Landstar provides an online exchange where shippers can contact transportation agents. Clients can access services such as the ability to check available loads and trucks, look up mileage, process load inquiries and check rates and balances.
Digex also hosts Landstar's cooperative purchasing program, where Landstar clients can lower operating costs by pooling their purchasing power.
"Our online transportation services are a critical part of our business as they help companies to quickly and easily find the best methods for delivering their freight," said Landstar Chief Information Officer Larry Thomas. "In choosing a hosting provider, we needed a highly secure and available environment, along with the ability to dynamically expand with our rapidly growing client base."
Landstar System Inc. is a non-asset based transportation provider. Landstar's carrier group includes Landstar Gemini Inc., Landstar Inway Inc., Landstar Ligon Inc. and Landstar Ranger Inc.
