Kenworth Truck Co. announced that it’s phasing out its aerodynamic T660, successor to the original “anteater” T600 from the 1980s, by year’s end. The builder will offer customers a “last call” opportunity to order from the final production allotment of 500 T660s.

Fast acceptance of the more modern T680 has eclipsed the popularity of the T660, reducing orders and production. The T660 uses a comparatively narrow aluminum cab while the T680 has a wider and longer aluminum cab.

“The Kenworth T660 has been a fantastic truck for our customers with more than 60,000 T660s sold since its introduction in 2007,” said Jason Skoog, Kenworth assistant general manager for sales and marketing.

“Due to its popularity, we continued to offer the T660 after introducing the award-winning T680 four years ago. Since that time, more and more T660 customers have converted to the T680. We want to give our excellent customers one last chance to own this industry favorite.”

When it entered the Class 8 market, the T660 was the latest evolution of Kenworth’s aerodynamic product line, which started with the T600 in 1985. The T660 also featured modern styling, advanced headlamps and electronics, and increased driver comfort.

While it lasts, the T660 is standard with the Paccar MX-13 engine with up to 455 hp and 1,650 lb-ft of torque. The T660 is available as a day cab or with 38-, 62-, 72- and 86-inch AeroCab sleepers. Customers interested in ordering Kenworth T660s may contact their Kenworth dealers for more information.
