Kenworth of Birmingham has opened Alabama's largest, state-of-the-art truck dealership covering 92,000 square feet in two buildings on 10 acres. It replaces a 33,000-square-foot facility.
"We are providing the most modern facility for our customers and for our 100 employees," said Bob Mitchell, owner-president of the company that owns Kenworth of Birmingham.
The new main building includes 40 service bays and three overhead cranes for hoisting truck parts and equipment. A 12,000-square-foot parts warehouse within the building is the largest dealer warehouse in Alabama.
Driver comfort is also highlighted. The building includes three bedrooms, two bathrooms with showers, a washer and dryer, and a driver's lounge with Internet and phone connections and cable TV.
The smaller auxiliary building contains six Kenworth PremierCare ExpressLube bays, alignment equipment, and a machine that diagnoses trucks for needed repairs. Mitchell said the auxiliary facility is staffed with a separate crew to ensure that trucks are quickly serviced, aligned and analyzed to minimize waiting time for the truck operator.
Kenworth of Birmingham facility's customer mix encompasses vocational customers, including dump truck, logging and mining companies, as well as small- to medium-size fleet operators, according to Mitchell. "Our expanding customer base ranges from owner-operators to fleets operating up to 1,000 trucks," he said.
The dealership is located at 2220 Finley Blvd. at the Finley exit from I-65. The phone number is (800) 444-6170 and the fax number is (205) 320-2210.
