JB Hunt Transport has decided to use Qualcomm's OmniExpress mobile communications system for its intermodal fleet.

Arkansas-based JB Hunt, the nation's largest publicly held truckload carrier, will begin immediately deploying OmniExpress system units in its intermodal fleet. With this agreement, JB Hunt expands its 10-year mobile communications relationship with Qualcomm to equip its smaller local fleet of vehicles.
OmniExpress was designed specifically for fleets operating in defined areas. These types of local and regional operations don't need the universal coverage offered by Qualcomm's flagship satellite product, OmniTRACS. OmniExpress offers a similar onboard messaging display and keyboard but uses less expensive ground-based communications provided by the Sprint PCS network, which uses the CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) technology.
Features include two-way data communications, store-and-forward messaging, automatic vehicle tracking using integrated Global Positioning System (GPS), as well as data integration capabilities with routing and scheduling systems, and business-specific office applications.
