Intermec Debuts Mighty, Small Handheld
Intermec Technologies Corp. Everett, Wash., has introduced the pocket-sized CN2

Intermec Technologies Corp. Everett, Wash., has introduced the pocket-sized CN2.
In a press release, Intermec described the CN@ as “a rugged, powerful and reliable mobile data collection computer for tough mobile computing applications with an ergonomic design that provides easy, single-handed operation in a form factor small enough to carry it almost anywhere data collection is required.”
Intermec noted that as many as 36% of commercial-grade PDAs fail when used in harsh environments, according to a recent VDC study. So companies need small mobile computers that can withstand the rigors of store, field and industrial operations.
"The CN2 combines two critical requirements: It's easily portable, slipping easily into a shirt pocket, and it is able to withstand the rigors of real-world work," said Intermec Vice President Mike Colwell. "Companies now can have the convenience of a PDA form factor and equipment they know will hold up for true investment protection."
With an Intel XScale processor and Microsoft CE .NET operating system, the CN2 balances the need for real-time data collection performance with full-shift power management functionality. The operating system minimizes memory requirements, reduces complexity and allows the application developer to completely customize the user interface.
The CN2's includes high-performance, secure 802.11b wireless networking capabilities for real-time information exchange
The CN2 incorporates Intermec's SmartSystem, a comprehensive system for device management. With SmartSystem, installation, routine maintenance or application software updates, security adjustments and device settings can be performed automatically and managed remotely, dramatically reducing field downtime and increasing efficiency. The CN2 is available for order now for delivery in Q2.
