IdleAire Technologies says its Advanced Travel Center Electrification (ATE) system can now provide long-haul drivers with security and emergency information in the cabs of their parked trucks.

With its National Alert, the company is providing information from the FBI and other web sites, but Senior Vice President of Strategic Relationships David Everhart says IdleAire has the capability of distributing a variety of customized messages quickly. Drivers also have the capability of responding directly to law enforcement authorities using the IdleAire system.
"We have a highly flexible system that can be modified in a matter of minutes to respond to events of the moment," said Everhart, "And there are many different ways we can deliver information to drivers. Drivers, using Internet system or phone line we provide in the cabs of their trucks, can respond to the appropriate authorities.
"There are 1.3 million pairs of eyes and ears on our highways and at fuel stops and rest areas around the country every day," said Everhart. "These drivers are potentially powerful allies in helping protect our homeland, in locating wanted or missing individuals or assisting in other emergencies. IdleAire has the capability of reaching out to every driver with critical, timely information in numerous ways."
Being installed in truck travel center parking lots around the country, the IdleAire system offers a Pentium-class computer in the cab of a parked truck, along with unlimited free access to email, the Internet and other amenities. The touch screen computer allows drivers to individually choose and control IdleAire services.
The system operates on IdleAire's own private, secure network, which is controlled by the company's Network Operations Center in Knoxville, Tenn. This network allows the company to flash messages, including pictures, text and video to any or every IdleAire-equipped parking space across the country, depending on the need.
As a result of the IdleAire National Alert, thousands of drivers can see -- on the main touch-screen menu used to choose and control IdleAire services -- the picture of a man wanted by the FBI. Touching the picture takes the user to IdleAire's free Internet portal and additional information on the individual. Drivers also have quick links to the Amber Alert system, the Department of Justice, the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the National Weather Service.
IdleAire Technologies was formed in June 2000. It maintains its corporate headquarters and a research and development center in Knoxville.
