Hub Group, the logistics company based in Lombard, Ill, will install Qualcomm’s new OmniExpress mobile communications system in trucks at seven intermodal container service centers.
According to Hub Group, OmniExpress installation will begin at company facilities in South Kearny, N.J., and Bensalem, Pa.
Hub Group announced it would also deploy Freight-Link intermodal drayage management software from Creative Systems of Burr Ridge, Ill.
“Our goal is to bring electronic technologies to every level of service within the intermodal process,” said Jim Ronchetto, vice president and general manager of Hub Group’s Quality Services operations.
Qualcomm, of San Diego, Cal., dominates the truckload mobile communications market with its OmniTRACS satellite product. The company introduced OmniExpress in 1999 for LTL carriers and other local and regional operations. With a look and feel similar to OmniTRACS, OmniExpress uses the less-expensive, ground-based Sprint PCS network.
Creative Systems offers trucking software for LTL, truckload and bulk carriers as well as for intermodal drayage.
