Horton, Inc., a company traditionally known as a fan clutch supplier, is repositioning itself as a global provider of diesel cooling solutions.

The new corporate identity for the Minneapolis-based company is a polar bear in an Arctic environment with the tagline: "Cooling Solutions for Diesel Engines."
President Randy Nord said the company planned to introduce a new engine fan at the Mid-America Trucking Show in March. He said it was also trying to build relationships with heat exchanger companies in the lead up to the 2002 engine emissions deadline.
Horton currently has over 50% of the Class 8 fan clutch business and is standard at all OEMs except Sterling. The company recently began offering the new spring-actuated DriveMaster line of fan clutches which reduce parasitic loads on the engine. Nord said the company may offer a new hybrid variable speed fan drive for 2002 engines.
A variable pitch fan under development at the company for a number of years may also be a potential solution for 2002, he said.
