Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff will be a guest speaker for the American Trucking Associations’ 2006 Management Conference and Exhibition (MC&E), scheduled to be held in Grapevine, Texas, Oct. 28-31.

Chertoff will address 2,000 motor carrier members and business leaders on key trucking issues in a post-911 world.
“Secretary Chertoff’s participation is timely and of high importance to motor carriers and all attendees involved in the industry given the changed environment in which we operate and the various security requirements that impact the efficiency of the transportation industry,” said ATA President and CEO Bill Graves.
Confirmed Feb. 15, 2005, as the second Secretary of Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff previously served as a federal judge, a federal prosecutor, and assistant attorney general in the criminal division of the Justice Department.
“Trucking operations are being impacted by security requirements of government, those being developed ‘in-house’ and by other industry sectors – all of which impact motor carrier operations,” Graves said. “It’s vital that our industry work in conjunction with key federal agencies to manage the challenges that trucking faces.”
Chertoff will speak at ATA’s Board of Directors and General Membership meeting Oct. 31.
