Hino Trucks has announced pricing for meeting the EPA 2010 emissions standards with its selective catalytic reduction technology.
The emissions technology surcharge will be $6,700 per vehicle.
"Hino Trucks will be fully compliant in meeting the 2010 emissions regulations by using the proven technology of SCR," said Glenn Ellis, vice president, marketing and dealer operations for Hino Trucks. "The ability to reduce emissions to near-zero levels while improving fuel economy distinguishes SCR as the only proven emissions control technology that is as good for business, as it is for the environment."
The surcharge reflects costs associated with adding SCR, which supporters say can significantly improve fuel economy compared to EPA 2007 engines while reducing long-term operating costs and meeting the stringent, near-zero emission standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that take effect Jan. 1, 2010.
The surcharge is in line with those announced by other companies. Daimler Trucks North America, for instance, announced a $6,700 surcharge will be added to the price of vehicles equipped with Cummins ISB6.7 engines. Navistar customers will pay an extra $6,000 for MaxxForce 7 and DT engines.
"SCR is an exhaust aftertreatment technology that reduces NOx significantly from the exhaust by injecting a precise amount of diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) downstream of the engine," said George Daniels, vice president, service operations for Hino.
DEF will be available through all 176 Hino dealers.
Hino has created a web site to explain how the company developed its SCR technology to meet the standards.
