Hendrickson International is providing the front air suspension and front steer axles for 500 Volvo VNL 780s now being delivered to U.S. Xpress Enterprises.
Each one of the cabs will be equipped with the 12,500-pound capacity Hendrickson Airtek front air suspension and Steertek front steer axle, the standard front suspension and axle specification on Volvo VN sleeper cabs.
"Hendrickson is committed to providing innovative technology, such as Airtek, that constantly establishes higher levels of value to meet the increasing needs of today’s fleets," said Keith Stephenson, president of Hendrickson truck suspensions systems. "The U.S. Xpress order is concrete evidence that fleets recognize the value that these products provide."
Airtek provides significant improvements in both vehicle ride and handling. Laboratory, test track and field use demonstrate improvements of up to 21% in ride and 16% in dynamic roll stability when compared to traditional steel spring and I-beam axle front suspensions. Additionally, Airtek is up to 139 pounds lighter than these suspensions.
Airtek is currently available on all new Volvo VN models in capacities from 12,000 to 14,600 pounds. Airtek can be specified with either industry standard preset hubs or Volvo designed unitized hubs.
A 12,000-pound capacity version with industry pre-set hubs is available on Freightliner Century Class, Columbia, Coronado and Classic XL models as well as on set-back axle Western Star Constellations.
For more information about Airtek, contact Hendrickson truck suspension systems, Woodridge, Ill., (630) 910-2800, or a local Volvo or Freightliner dealer. Or visit the Hendrickson web site at www.hendrickson.intl.com.
